01/13/07 - Summertime in January
Two warm weekends in the middle of January just doesn’t happen, but when it happens, you don’t question it, you thank George Bush for Global Warming (the dem’s said it was his fault) and you saddle up. And that’s exactly what I did this weekend. I met the Southern Cruisers Saturday morning for a ride up to the Southern Eagle Motorcycle Resort. This place isn’t yet really open, it was a former employee of the 29 dreams motorcycle resort who purchased an old church camp in Halyville, AL and is converting it to a motorcycle resort. I’m not sure what conversion he needed to make except to take down all the pictures of Jesus and replace them with pieces of leather and old motorcycle parts. It remains to be seen if he will be able to make it. Halyville is in a dry county which means he can’t sell beer or liquor. Anyone in the food business can explain to you what a chunk of your revenue comes from this. But we shall see. The more motorcycle resorts are out there the better for me. I followed up Saturday with a short ride Sunday. The guys at Church wanted to start doing a little riding after church so we did that. They didn’t have any idea where to go so I took them the backroad up to Palisades park in Oneonta. The day was short because we didn’t get going until 1PM. One dude who they called “beaver” rode an old 1976 Harley with more rust on it than…. Well anything. I didn’t see any paint at all, a rag for a gas cap, and the bike seemed to have two speeds. Wide open, and stalled. The old rumbler did make it back so I suppose that’s good
