03/22/08 - Warrior River Run

I've been meaning to do this for a long time, head down to the Warrior river. When I was a kid my family had a cabin down there. I still remember riding in my grandfathers old truck down to the cabin, I seem to remember it was red but I don't know, what I do remember is it bounced alot. The road may not have been so well paved back then. I also remember the thick smell of cigars as my grandfather always had one in his mouth. I haven't been down that way in a long time and today was the opportunity. I stopped by the old fishing camp where we would put in the boat (see photo). This road is unique in that aside from the new bridge over the water very little has changed on old 269 which starts in Ensley and ends in Jasper. From Jasper I ran into 69 which is another road that winds through the empty part of Cullman county more or less unchanged for a long time. I eventually arrived at I-65 south of Cullman and drank some coffee at a large truckstop down there. From there I went home. The scenery on this route is top knotch yet very few people know these roads. I'll have to take the cruisers or the church guys down this road.
