04/05/2008 - The Quest for Steak II

Just in case any of you stayed up nights worrying about global warming, let me fill you in, Its CRAP! If the earth were warming I wouldn’t be freezing to death in April, which is what I did Saturday, the weather report was for dry skies after the morning and 69 degrees, great weather for a bike ride so Myself and two of my Southern Cruiser compatriots took off from Trussville at about 9AM. It was wet but not raining in Trussville and cool but not cold. We headed west to 269 to head up a country route that would take through Walker county and on up through the Bankhead forests and on to Moulton Alabama the home of several top quality steak houses (Lots of cows there). I only wore chaps and a thin leather jacket and by time I got to Sylvan Springs we had run through a mixture of rain and mist thrown up by the trucks. The leathers were now soaked and the bikes a mess, but we soldiered on. All would have been ok except that…. Did I mention this global warming CRAP?? The temps actually went DOWN from there. At one point I believe it was in the mid 40’s and I’m soaked. My hands were so cold I couldn’t feel them and my teeth were about worn down from chattering. By time we got to the Stockyard steakhouse in Moulton I was about shot. The waitress brought me coffee which I clung to as if it was my last ounce of gold. I actually considered just pouring it on my head. One female rider with me went in the ladies room and just ran hot water over her hands for 10 minutes. We needed a list anf fortunately the Stockyard is a great place to eat, we got a plate covering steak and sides for $10.50. Nothing in Birmingham less than $25 a place would come close to this. The original plan was to ride on from there but we booked it straight home from there. When I got home I turned the water on in the tub as hot as it would go and I jumped in. I stayed there for an hour running more hot water several times. When I came out I still felt cold and put on some sweat pants and snow socks, stuff that would normally cause me to break out in a sweat but I wore them the rest of the night and slept in them. I’ve had some tough days on a motorcycle and this was definitely one of them. So if you’re a tree hugging liberal freak who runs around talking about how we must stop global climate change before its too late, Trust me, Its not warming fast enough for me!
